Welding & Metalworking Equipment Safety
Many of our welding and metalworking equipment suppliers have websites available with Material Safety Data Sheets for your convenience. Below is a list of some sites you may wish to access to obtain MSDS information.
FAQs
What is Porosity?
Porosity is gas pores found in the solidified weld bead. These pores may vary in size and are generally distributed in a random manner. Causes may be:
1. Inadequate shielding gas flow.
2. Excessive shielding gas flow. This can cause aspiration of air into the gas stream.
3. Clogged gas nozzle or leaking hoses & fittings.
4. Excessive wind in the welding area.
5. Foreign matter on the wire like excessive lubricant.
6. Puddle turbulence caused by erratic arc characteristics (voltage too low or high)
What is Undercutting?
Undercutting is a defect that appears as a groove in the parent metal directly along the edges of the weld. Causes may be:
1. Travel speed too high.
2. Welding Voltage too high.
3. Excessive welding current.
4. Insufficient dwell at the edge of the weld bead.
